Received a Spanish Timeshare Judgment? Here’s What It Means and What You Should Do Next

Have you recently received a letter or document said to be a Spanish court judgment about your timeshare? You’re not alone — and you’re right to feel unsure about what it all means, especially if the document is written entirely in Spanish.

At Sarah Waddington Solicitors, we’ve seen a growing number of timeshare owners receiving these so-called “Spanish judgments.” Some clients have taken action in Spain previously, while others haven’t — yet they’re still being contacted or told money may be owed to them.

If this sounds like you, here’s what you need to know.

1. What Is a Spanish Judgment?

A Spanish judgment (or sentencia) is a formal decision issued by a Spanish court. In the context of timeshare cases, it often relates to claims made against timeshare companies — usually about contracts that were found to be invalid under Spanish law.

However, not every “judgment” you receive is genuine or relevant to your personal situation. Some documents are misleading, incorrectly translated, or even unrelated to you entirely. This is why it’s vital not to assume what it means without proper legal review.

2. Why It’s in Spanish (and Why That Matters)

Spanish courts issue all official documents in Spanish — that’s completely normal. But this can make it extremely difficult for UK timeshare owners to understand whether the judgment:
•Relates to them personally
•Concerns a genuine case
•Includes any financial award (compensation or refund)
•Requires any action or response

Without a professional translation and legal review, it’s impossible to be certain what the document actually says or whether it affects you.

3. Do You Need to Take Action?

That depends entirely on your situation. If you have:

•Never taken legal action in Spain, the judgment might not be connected to you at all — or it could be used by others to try to mislead or sell you services.
•Taken action through a law firm or claims company, you may be entitled to compensation, but you’ll need to confirm if the case was actually won and if funds are available.

The safest step is to have the document reviewed by a qualified legal professional who understands both Spanish legal procedures and UK consumer protection laws.

4. Will You Receive Any Money?

Receiving a Spanish judgment doesn’t automatically mean money will follow. Even if a court ruled in your favour, additional steps are usually required before any compensation is released — such as:

•Enforcement of the judgment
•Confirmation that funds have been recovered from the timeshare company
•Coordination between Spanish and UK legal systems

If you’ve been told you’ve won money but haven’t received anything, or you’re unsure whether the claim was ever real, it’s time to get clarity.
