Receiving nuisance calls can be incredibly frustrating. We receive calls daily with clients explaining they are being hounded by cold-callers. This is especially rife within the Timeshare industry, where so-called ‘Relinquishment Companies’ claim they can help you exit your Timeshare. You will also have undoubtedly received a call from an insurance company informing you that you had been in a motor accident.

If you are sick and tired of receiving this calls we have some useful ways of limiting and even stopping them in the future!

We recommend registering with the TPS (Telephone Preference Service), it is a legal requirement for telemarketers not to call a TPS subscribed number after 28 days of registration. It only takes a few minutes to sign up and can all be done online. You can click here to do this now.

What you should look out for:

First things first, it is illegal for law firms to cold call anyone. Therefore, if you have received a call from a company who you have not enquired with previously, they are not solicitors, and will not be able to provide you with legal advice.

Check the firm has an SRA number. This is the governing body of solicitors, they ensure that all practices abide by and comply with professional standards and regulations. All Solicitors MUST be registered with the SRA.

Check the company’s registration number. By visiting Companies House you will be able to view the company, its trading name, registered address along with current and previous directors.

Finally, ask as many questions as you can, if you think something isn’t quite right you can call us for advice. We will be able to assist you and will have probably heard of the company in question. Remember, we are here to help you.
